Vintage celluloid is still produced in Japan using traditional methods. Each block requires months of curing before being turned on a lathe. These are precious materials that no modern industrial process can replicate.

Each celluloid sheet has different veins and shades. This means two pens of the same model are never identical: each piece is unique. Makers like Sailor and some Italian manufacturers keep this tradition alive.

Celluloid feels warmer to the touch than modern resin. It scratches more easily, but polishes up with specialist wax. Those who love it never switch to any other material.
