On May 19, 1918, brothers Eugenio and Alfredo Verga established a company in Milan for the production of fountain pens, nibs, and ink. The first pen, called the Columbus Safety Pen No. 1, was made of black ebonite.

After various vicissitudes, following the war that destroyed the factory, and the death of the owner, in 1992 the brand and company were sold by the heirs to the Santara company, which brought the brand back to the level it deserves in the panorama of Italian pens.
