Cartridge and converter fountain pens: how they work

Cartridges can be replaced in seconds, without making a mess. International standard cartridges are compatible with most European pens — including Aurora, Visconti, Montegrappa, and Kaweco. Some brands use exclusive cartridges; in such cases, a dedicated converter is available.

The fountain pen converter is fitted in place of the cartridge and filled directly from the bottle, like a plunger. It opens up access to hundreds of colors and special formulations — shimmer, iron-gall, scented — which are not available in cartridges. It is reusable, and therefore more sustainable over time.

The two solutions are interchangeable on the same pen. Cartridges for convenience while traveling, converters at home to choose the right color: many users alternate them without a second thought.
