Lacquered fountain pens: elegance and depth

Urushi lacquer sits at the top of this category. Originating in Japan, it is applied in successive layers with weeks of drying between each coat. The result is a surface with unmatched visual depth.

Hand-applied modern lacquer finishes offer brighter colours at lower production cost. Many European and Asian brands produce lacquered pens in black, red, blue or burgundy that hold up well under use.

Lacquered pens need a little extra care: avoid prolonged contact with solvents and don't leave them loose in pockets with keys or metal objects. With care, they keep their looks for decades.
