Over 5000 years ago, with the invention of writing, so-called prehistory ended and Homo Sapiens began true history.

An ancient material

The pen's material is as ancient as the world and has properties that make it unparalleled for the production of writing instruments: Etna lava.
Visconti has succeeded in producing a material with over 50% pure Basaltic Lava, catalyzing it with resin in a secret and patented formula, with extraordinary properties.

Bronze

Inspired by the Bronze Age, the first sign of civilization almost contemporary with the invention of writing, all metal parts (clips, rings, and accessories), with the sole exception of the piston, are made of bronze, which does not require protective treatments that alter its original, almost pink color; it can be easily polished with special products.
The filling plunger is made of titanium, which perfectly resists the aggressiveness of the ink.

An ancient material

Visconti's modified basaltic lava is practically perfect for writing instruments, as it is:
- Virtually unbreakable with an extremely high degree of resilience, i.e. the ability to absorb shock: over 10 times stronger than the same pen made of resin, virtually unbreakable in everyday use.
- Flame retardant and heat resistant to over 100 degrees centigrade: well above the temperature reached in a parked car in summer (70°).
- Only slightly hygroscopic, to pleasantly absorb hand sweat while writing
- Smooth feel on contact, almost rubber-like, restful on the fingers, excellent grip.

Homo Sapiens is a line of writing instruments designed for true writers, for those for whom the pen is still a travel companion, a daily friend with whom to share the civilization that writing itself helped create.
