Technical features
Iroshizuku inks are water-based and formulated with high-quality pigments. They flow smoothly and evenly, with an average drying time for fountain pen inks. They do not contain acids, so they do not damage nibs over time. The formulation is also compatible with converters and piston systems.
The 50 ml bottle has an inclined bottom that allows residual ink to be collected even when the level is low, reducing waste. To learn more about fountain pen ink characteristics, consult the ink page on Wikipedia.
FAQ
Is Iroshizuku ink compatible with all fountain pens?
Yes. The water-based formulation is compatible with any fountain pen that uses standard cartridges or converters. It does not contain acids or solid pigments that could clog the nib or feed.
How do I choose the right Iroshizuku color?
Iroshizuku colors cover a wide range: from deep blues (shin-kay, tsuki-yo) to light blues (ama-iro, kon-peki), from greens (shin-ryoku, ku-jaku, syo-ro) to purples (yama-budo, murasaki-shikibu), and also gray, brown, and black. The choice also depends on the type of paper, the pen, and the writing style. Also read our article What color are you today? for guidance.
Is Iroshizuku ink waterproof?
No. Like most water-based fountain pen inks, Iroshizuku is not waterproof. It is suitable for daily writing, journaling, and correspondence, but not for documents that require resistance to moisture.
