Piuma is a writing instrument made entirely of evaporated pear wood, with a dynamic shape that recalls the quill pen and Leonardo da Vinci's studies on the flight of birds. Leonardo's signature is engraved on the back of the pen in a mirror-like fashion: legible in a mirror, like his notes.
The tip is made of Etergraf® : it looks like a ballpoint pen, but it isn't. It's not even a pencil or a fountain pen. It writes forever , without ink or refills, with a clean, light stroke; reinventing Leonardo da Vinci's sixteenth-century technique of writing by oxidation.
For sale here as a complete Leonardo Set .
1 / of2
The Piuma Leonardo Set was created in 2019, for a limited time, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death.
The square wooden box, lined in white, includes:
a Piuma pen without pedestal,
an information booklet about Leonardo da Vinci,
a rock paper notebook.
The Ethergraf® tip
The ETHERGRAF® tip allows you to write without using ink or graphite, simply by exploiting the oxidation of the paper.
It microscopically "scratches" the paper, oxidizing it and leaving a light but indelible mark.
Thanks to its porosity, ordinary paper, i.e. untreated cellulose paper (made from plant fibres bonded together through a process called "felting"), is a material that reacts perfectly to the passage of the metal tip.
