Columbus Fountain Pen: Silver and Gold

Nino Marino Signature has created a fountain pen to celebrate the allure of the sea and the courage of exploration, in two versions: the Columbus GOLD and SILVER fountain pens.

For both, the barrel is made of a magnificent, special sea-blue resin, turned by hand from solid bar stock. Meanwhile, the impressive decoration on the cap represents one of Christopher Columbus's caravels.

In the Silver model, the cap and blind cap are crafted from the original wood of the historic Italian Navy training ship Amerigo Vespucci; the Columbus pen thus carries with it the soul of a symbol of Italian maritime tradition.

Other features of the Columbus fountain pen

The large caravel decoration on the cap is created using the lost-wax casting technique, then finished entirely by hand. The filling system is a fixed piston, providing a good ink capacity.
The nib of the Silver model is available in various tips, including Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, Stub 1.1, Flex EF, and Flex F.
The nib of the Gold model, size #8, is available in ExtraFine, Fine, Medium, and Broad.

The Columbus fountain pen is part of the Nino Marino Signature collection, the most exclusive line from the Maiora group, produced in a numbered series with a certificate of authenticity. The sailing ship Amerigo Vespucci, from which the wood for the cap of the Silver model was sourced, is still in service today as a training ship for the Italian Navy.

The Mermaid on the nib

The 14Kt gold nib is decorated with the two-tailed Parthenope Siren, a historic printer's mark from 17th-century Naples.
It is a crowned female figure (symbol of Parthenope's ancient royalty), with a double, forked fish tail held up symmetrically with her hands.
In antiquity, it was considered an emblem of fertility, fruitfulness, and regeneration linked to the Mother Goddess.

The cap is decorated with a splendid solid silver (or vermeil, meaning solid silver plated in 24Kt gold) caravel, crafted using the ancient "lost-wax casting" technique and finished by hand.
