Dante Alighieri, universally recognized as the father of the Italian language, wrote theDivine Comedybetween 1300 and 1321, the year of his death. It is the most important literary testimony of medieval civilization and one of the greatest works of universal literature. The Divine Comedy recounts an imaginary journey through the three realms of the afterlife—Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise—offering a glimpse into medieval morality and ethics and the worldview that developed within the Catholic Church. Divided into 3 Canticles, composed of 33 songs structured in tercets.

Heaven, Purgatory and Hell
The 3 Dante Alighieri Marlen pens share the same shape and structure, but differ in the decoration and materials used.
They are all made of mother-of-pearl resin and wood; with a small coin featuring a portrait of Dante set into the top of the cap.
The clip represents his dagger (the original is kept at the Dante House Museum).
Resin, wood and precious metals
Hell: pearly anthracite gray resin, fine wood inserts, bronze finishes. The clip dagger is solid sterling silver on a bronze base.
Purgatory: pearly brown resin, fine wood, copper trim. The clip dagger is solid silver on a copper base.
Paradise: ivory-colored mother-of-pearl resin, fine wood, silver trim. The dagger is made of bronze on a solid silver base.
The central band
The large central band features engravings inspired by the Divine Comedy.
Hell (pictured): made of bronze, with the names of the Circles of Hell engraved on it.
Purgatory: made of copper, with the names of the Purgatory Frames engraved.
Paradise: Made of silver, engraved with the names of the Heavens of Paradise.
