The Delta Journal is a fountain pen produced in 2014 as a tribute to the world of journalism . The pens for sale here are New Old Stock : that is, never used, never sold, or displayed, but kept in the Delta warehouse since 2014.
The current price is significantly discounted compared to the original list price of 180 euros.
Availability is limited to remaining stocks from the 2014 production. Only two colours remain: Full Black or Pompeii Red.
The cartridge/converter filling system can also be operated by unscrewing only the back end, no need to unscrew the whole barrel from the grip.

Delta Journal Design and Materials
Cap and body are made of marbled acrylic resin with a glossy finish. The Pompeii color recalls the color and appearance of the celluloid used by Delta for the limited-edition Pompei Millennium, while the Black color offers a classic, understated aesthetic. The acrylic resin guarantees impact resistance and color stability over time, characteristics Delta has used in its products since 1982.
The chrome-plated metal clip attaches to the cap with a push-button system. The barrel shape is slightly tapered towards the grip, designed to promote a natural hold. The cap closes with a thread that requires less than a full turn, ensuring a quick and secure closure to prevent the ink from drying out.
Delta Journal Writing System
The steel nib is original, made of spring steel, hand-checked and tested in the Delta factory. The decoration features a stylized design found in the archaeological remains of ancient Pompeii; once again, Delta's connection to its homeland is very strong.
The five available grades cover different writing needs: Extra Fine (0.5 mm) for small characters and standard paper, Fine (0.6 mm) for everyday use, Medium (0.7 mm) for fluid writing, Broad (0.9 mm) for signatures and titles, Stub (1.1 mm) for calligraphic effects.
The included converter has a capacity of 0.8 ml and features a particular technical solution: it can also be activated by unscrewing the back end of the barrel, allowing filling without disassembling the barrel from the grip-nib group.
Innovative filling system
The Delta Journal uses a piston-converter accessible from the back end. To refill ink, unscrew the tail and operate the piston directly, keeping the nib immersed in ink. This system eliminates the need to unscrew the barrel from the grip-nib assembly, reducing the risk of leaks and simplifying refilling, with clean hands.
The mechanism also accepts standard international cartridges. To use the cartridges, remove the converter and insert the cartridge until it clicks. The dual system offers the convenience of cartridges for travel and the office, and the versatility of the converter for using bottled inks.
The Delta Collection The Journal 2014
The Journal collection included three instruments: a fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint pen, all characterized by the same streamlined line. The design was inspired by reporters' notebooks and the field pens used by journalists in the 1950s and 1960s.
The original production, in addition to the Pompeii Red and Black colors, also included the Mottled Brown, Marbled Blue, and Variegated Black/White variants.
The NOS pieces currently available represent the last remaining stock of this edition.
Use and maintenance
To fill with the converter, unscrew the tail piece from the barrel, completely immerse the nib in ink, and actuate the plunger 3-4 times until it is completely filled. Dry the tip with paper towels before writing or closing the cap.
Routine cleaning simply requires rinsing under cold fresh water until the water runs clear. For a thorough cleaning of the converter, unscrew the back end and pump the plunger with cold water 5-6 times. Let it dry for 24 hours before refilling with a different ink.
The resin can be kept shiny with a soft, dry cloth. To remove fingerprints, use a slightly damp microfiber cloth. Store the pen horizontally when not in use for more than a week. The cap thread requires periodic cleaning with a dry cotton swab to remove ink residue that could compromise the seal.
Comparison with other Deltas
Compared to the Dolcevita Medium series , the Delta Journal has more compact dimensions (130 mm versus 140 mm) and lighter weight (15 g versus 22 g). The "special converter" filling system is exclusive to the Journal and is not found in other Delta models.
FAQ
▷ What does NOS mean and what warranty does it have?
NOS stands for New Old Stock: a pen never sold or used, produced in 2014 and stored in an original Delta warehouse. It is not used, but it is not currently in production.Delta warranty is valid for 24 months from the date of purchase against manufacturing defects.
▷ What nib tip should I choose for everyday use?
For everyday writing on standard 80 gsm paper, we recommend Fine or Medium. Extra Fine is suitable for very small characters or notebooks with narrow lines. Broad and Stub are suitable for signatures, titles, or decorative calligraphy. The Medium nib offers the best balance between fluidity and versatility.▷ How does the special converter filling system work?
Unscrew the back end of the pen body to access the converter plunger. Dip the nib into the ink and rotate the plunger 3-4 times. There's no need to disassemble the barrel. This system reduces the risk of spills during refilling and keeps your hands clean.▷ Is the cap thread resistant to daily use?
Yes. The quick-release thread (less than one turn) is made of reinforced resin and designed for thousands of open/close cycles. Partial closure reduces wear compared to full threads. Monthly cleaning with a dry cotton swab is recommended to remove ink residue that may accumulate in the threads.▷ Can I use inks from other brands?
Yes. The cartridge/converter system accepts standard international cartridges (Pelikan, Waterman, Kaweco, Diamine) and any bottled ink via a converter. Avoid pigmented inks or inks with metal particles that could clog the feed channel.▷ Is Pompeii color stable over time?
Yes. Delta acrylic resin is UV stabilized and retains its original red-green hue even after years of exposure to indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight for more than 2-3 hours at a time. The glossy finish may dull slightly with micro-scratches from daily use, which can be repaired with resin polish.▷ How long does an ink refill last?
The 0.8 ml converter provides approximately 8-10 A4 pages of continuous writing with a Fine or Medium nib. A standard 1.2 ml cartridge lasts approximately 12-15 pages. With a Broad or Stub nib, the lifespan is reduced by 30-40%. Lifespan varies depending on writing pressure and character size.▷ Is the Delta Journal suitable for small or large hands?
The 10 mm diameter grip section and 15 grams weight make the Delta Journal suitable for medium-sized hands. For very large hands, it may feel thin, while for small hands, it offers good control. The 120 mm length uncapped is average for standard European fountain pens.▷ Can I take the Delta Journal on a plane?
Yes. The fountain pen can travel in the cabin either fully charged or completely empty. When half-charged, pressure changes at altitude may cause ink leaks. We recommend unscrewing the rear cap and emptying the converter before flight, or holding the pen with the nib pointing upward during takeoff and landing.
N.O.S.
Delta reopened in 2023 after closing in 2017, finding some parts that it reassembled and overhauled.
The Journal was initially available in 5 colors: in addition to Pompeii red, there was solid black, a pearly blue, a mottled brown and a mixed black-beige.
The Pompeii colour recalls a famous 1996 Delta limited edition, dedicated to Pompeii, made of dark red celluloid with green-grey inserts and some fragments of white.
The Journal is made of resin, hand-turned from solid bar stock; but the composition of the fragments and colors is very similar.
The special converter
The filling system is a "special" cartridge/converter: by unscrewing the tail, you can activate the converter without having to unscrew the barrel.
