Giardino dell’Eden through our customers eyes

A few months ago, Giardino Italiano created a very special pen to celebrate its Twentieth Anniversary: Giardino dell'Eden. This pen was designed and produced by Visconti for Giardino Italiano. Its style, character and meaning are unique, as rare as the engraving technique used to decorate every single piece belonging to this limited series.

Several months on, we asked our customers what they think of Giardino dell'Eden in an online survey. We were so delighted by the responses that we thought we would share them on our blog as one of the best ways to introduce you to this pen.

Giardino dell'Eden: why you should own one

The first clear finding to emerge from the survey was that you loved Giardino dell'Eden for its colours, its design and because it is a Visconti pen. I adore its style — feminine and curling. The petrol blue is intriguing. And the black, well, it's a classic you simply have to have. Not to mention the fact that I love Visconti fountain pens — they make up the largest number of pens in my collection at the moment. – Shauna

Black or petrol blue?

You chose petrol blue because it is unusual, deep and rich; and you chose black because it is always in fashion and you cannot go wrong with it.

However, much to our great surprise, 33% of those who bought it decided not to let colour influence them and purchased one of each. Why choose when you can have both?

Someone also suggested we add more colours.

The essence of Giardino Italiano in a pen

83% of our customers think that the name "Giardino dell'Eden" well represents the identity of Giardino Italiano and is an appropriate name for the pen: the design and style seem to represent the idea of Eden well.
A small percentage of you, however, were not struck by the name or had a divided opinion due to the biblical references the name implies. We will bear that in mind — we want all our customers to be happy.

In our blog article dedicated to the pen, we tried to trace the different origins of this story in various traditions and places around the world. We are therefore happy to see that many of those who bought Giardino dell'Eden found their own fascination in it: the apples, Adam and Eve, the Tree of Life, art and, in a broader sense, the earthly paradise of pen users and owners.

The hidden serpent: the hunt is on

Among the branches of the tree of life climbing up the pen's barrel, a serpent is hidden. Surprisingly, only 44% of those who bought it found it.

The Scrimshaw technique won everyone over

Giardino dell'Eden was decorated with a rare engraving technique — the Scrimshaw technique. We wanted to find out from you — experts and non-experts alike — whether Giardino dell'Eden feels like a special pen or whether the decoration left you indifferent.

We are very happy to know that even less experienced people immediately had the feeling of holding something special: I didn't know what technique had been used, but I immediately sensed it was excellent artisan work, from the idea, the design and its execution on the material.

According to 56% of our customers, this decorative technique provides a superb touch, both to sight and to touch.

In some cases, the Scrimshaw technique was the very reason for purchasing the pen — which flatters us greatly.

78% of users confirm that the pen is extremely pleasant to hold.

The perfect tool for ink lovers

Among the customers who bought the fountain pen — a large majority — only a small number of collectors had not used the pen or had not even filled it with ink. Those who did use it enjoyed experimenting with writing using different types of ink and nibs.

It also seems to emerge that those who bought the black pen prefer to use the classic tones of black or sepia inks, while those who opted for the petrol blue pen sought to match colours in nuance, such as sapphire, aquamarine and lavender.

One comment in particular encapsulates the most common use of the pen: I use different inks, depending on the pen I use, the colour I want and the purpose of the pen.
